I have been citing in MLA format since high school, so it was not at all new to me when we had to make a works cited page for our paper. I started by listing my sources by which author’s last name was alphabetically first, there for making Nicholas Carr’s paper the first source and then Sherry Turkle’s second. I listed there names in order of Last, First (Carr, Nicholas and Turkle, Sherry). I then put the name of their articles fully italicized. After that, the publisher of their articles and what year they came out. Since Turkle’s essay was found in a book, I had to place the page numbers of that book in parentheses after. When it came to in-cite citations, I would typically quote one of the two authors and then end the sentence with with their last name and page number. One example where I demonstrated this is, “We are so accustomed to being always connected that being alone seems like a problem technology should solve…Afraid of being alone, we struggle to pay attention to ourselves. And what suffers is our ability to pay attention to each other. If we can’t find our own center, we lose confidence in what we have to offer others.” (Turkle 348).
